Yongala Briefing
The ss"Yongala" sank in a cyclone during the final stage of her journey from Melbourne to Cairns. The loss of 123 lives on the 23rd March 1911, East of Cape Bowling Green (near Townsville), North Qld, is Austalia's geatest maritime disaster.
The wreck of the "Yongala" is now dense with corals and other reef life - large Rays, Groupers, Sea Snakes, Eels & Sharks make it Australia's best dive.
